LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A teenage girl is in critical condition she was shot near a bus stop in Louisville's Park Duvalle neighborhood Tuesday morning.
According to Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey, police were called to the intersection of Beech Street and Wyandotte Avenue at 8 a.m. on a reported shooting. That's off Algonquin Parkway, not far from Algonquin Park.
Once on scene, police found a teenage girl who was shot. She was transported to UofL Hospital in critical condition. Humphrey said LMPD's Homicide Unit is leading the investigation because of the extent of her injuries.
"We are following leads that we have on suspect information and asking the community to make sure that they call with any information they have," Humphrey said. "Obviously, this is a frustrating situation when we're dealing with a juvenile who's been shot, and so we are asking the community for your help in this. We want to make sure that we bring justice to this family as well as make sure that we get dangerous people off the street."
In a statement, a spokesperson for Jefferson County Public Schools said district police were on scene with LMPD near a bus stop on Beech Street. The district is asking the public to avoid the area at this time.
