LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Three people, including a 1-year-old, were killed early Sunday morning in a wrong-way crash near Seymour, Indiana.
According to Indiana State Police, a wrong-way crash was reported just after 2:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 65 near the 48-mile marker in Jackson County. Police said the crash happened one mile south of Seymour.
Police said that, for an unknown reason, a Jeep driven by 51-year-old Theosco Middlebrooks of Louisville was traveling northbound on I-65 in the southbound lanes.
Middlebrooks then crashed head-on into an SUV driven by 31-year-old Alyssa Osborn of Scottsburg, police said.
Both drivers died at the scene. According to police, Osborn's 1-year-old son, Waylon Osborn, was properly restrained in the rear seat of the SUV and sustained critical injuries. He was taken to Norton Children's Hospital, where he later died.
Police said investigators believe alcohol use by Middlebrooks likely played a role in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
