LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman pregnant with twins, resulting in an emergency C-section.
According to court documents, Desmond Potts, 31, was charged with first-degree assault (domestic violence), first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault (child abuse), third-degree terroristic threatening and menacing.
Police said Potts got into a verbal altercation Aug. 20 at a home with a woman who was 31 weeks pregnant with twins.
Potts allegedly grabbed her and slammed her onto her back when she tried to push him away.
A 9-year-old child jumped on his back to try to protect the woman, but Potts allegedly flung the child off.
Police said Potts pulled out a knife after the woman attempted to leave and he took her phone and keys.
According to court documents, Potts pinned the woman against a wall, held a knife to her stomach and threatened to kill her and the unborn children.
Potts allegedly dragged the victim into the living room, slammed her onto the floor and dragged her by the leg out of the apartment and down a flight of stairs.
He allegedly also grabbed the child by the neck and pinned the child against a wall twice.
According to court documents, the woman fainted and was taken to UofL Hospital.
The woman sustained a serious liver laceration and a ruptured placenta, requiring an emergency C-section to deliver the twins.
Potts was arraigned in court Saturday and his bond was set at $100,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 31.
