LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A dog trapped 40 feet below a steep ravine in High Bridge was rescued March 6 after firefighters from three departments worked together to reach it.

The Wilmore Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request from the Jessamine County Fire District after the dog’s owners could not safely reach their pet.

Fire officials said the terrain made it too dangerous for the owners to attempt a rescue themselves, prompting the call for specialized rope rescue technicians.

Members of Wilmore’s Special Hazards Team arrived and began planning the technical rescue.

Once crews reached the scene, Jessamine County Emergency Management helped guide rescuers to the dog’s location.

Rope rescue technicians accessed the steep area and worked with firefighters from the assisting departments to safely bring both the rescuer and the injured dog back to the top.

The dog was reunited with its owners after the rescue.
