BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear joined local and state leaders Monday morning to help officially open UofL Health - South Hospital, a project years in the making in Bullitt County.

UofL Health opened a fast-track emergency room at the facility off Interstate 65 back in October. But the rest of the hospital opened to the community Monday.

The $78 million hospital includes a 10-bed intensive care unit, enhanced heart care services, expanded emergency capabilities, expanded cardiopulmonary services, a state-of-the-art pharmacy and more.

There are 40 beds for in-patient care, but over the years, that could balloon to nearly 100 beds.

Bullitt County residents were welcomed Monday for a breakfast and a tour. The grand re-opening was special for Susan Hagan, who worked her first hospital job at UofL Health South years ago as a housekeeper. She said Monday she's excited to have an option closer to home with this new chapter.

"This is the right time for this hospital to grow," Hagan said. "... to see the growth, it's awesome."

Medical leaders are thrilled about the location, which is right off the Brooks exit in an area that continues to see new development.

After the ceremony ended, the facility began admitting patients around noon.
