LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky woman returned home after winning a gold medal from the Special Olympics, reported by LEX18.Â
DesaRae Nickell, from Morehead, won gold in the Super G and bronze in the Giant Slalom, after competing in Italy.
"I was very humbled by it because I come from a small town in Kentucky where nobody skis and I have to go two hours to practice," Nickell said to LEX18.Â
She practiced at Perfect North Slopes in southern Indiana. She said it was a dream come true to win a gold medal.
"It was shocking but you have to be humble to be a winner," said Nickell.
Friends and family celebrated her return to Morehead Tuesday.Â
