LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- KFC Yum! Center leaders are starting to prepare for the downtown arena's future, launching a study that seeks feedback about the 15-year-old venue's direction and priorities.

The effort will "reimagine" the building at Second and Main streets through public input, according to the Louisville Arena Authority.

The arena authority says the top priorities include improving guest experiences; planning new uses for underutilized spaces; "aligning with Louisville's cultural identity," such as bourbon; brainstorming for new events; and thinking about "financial sustainability" once current funding streams change or expire.

“We are not starting over,” said Leslie Geoghegan, the arena board's chair. “We are building on the arena’s incredible foundation and ensuring it continues to be a source of pride, entertainment, and economic impact for the next 15 years and beyond.”

The work is being led by London-based Forward Associates.

Arena officials plan to start surveying University of Louisville season ticket holders and other known visitors this week before posting an online survey at www.kfcyumcenter.com, spokeswoman Sandra Moran said.

The U of L's men's and women's teams are the main tenants of the arena, which also was built to host concerts, family shows and other events.
