LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- About 100 Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company employees and contractors headed to Florida to help with potential damage from Tropical Storm Erika have turned around. LG&E officials say Florida Power and Light recalled assistance around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, about an hour after crews departed.

“This kind of thing is something that happens sometimes,” said Natasha Collins, LG&E director of media relations. “Ultimately they decided to recall the assistance. Sometimes that assistance is sent to other areas where the storm may hit instead.”

Keith Holeman, group leader of operations at LG&E’s Auburndale Operations Center, said LG&E has helped respond to every major hurricane since 2004.
