LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS firefighter is dead after a tragic accident.
On Monday, department spokesperson Jordan Yuodis said Sgt. Christian Smith drowned while swimming at Barren River Lake in southern Kentucky, about 100 miles from Bowling Green.
Smith was 35 years old. He had been with Anchorage Middletown Fire since 2014 and was assigned to Rescue Company 33.
Yuodis said during this time, it's important to stay together.
"The days and weeks ahead will be challenging, but it is crucial that we stand united as a department," Yuodis said in a news release.
The Jefferson County Professional Firefighters asked in a Facebook post to keep Smith's "wife and children, his family, friends and crew in your hearts."
No funeral arrangements have been announced at this time.
