LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A sculpture created by a Louisville artist is now on display in Lexington.
The art installation called "The Birth of Hope" was dedicated this week. It was created by Dave Caudill, who attended the University of Kentucky and Louisville School of Art.Â
The 30-foot tall sculpture now sits in the green space along Old Frankfort Pike, in front of the Fayette County Detention Center.
"This sculpture provides hope and positive reinforcement for the detention center staff, and the families connected to this place," Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said in a news release Friday. "It is a powerful reminder that hope belongs everywhere in our community, and that change is always possible."
Officials said it serves as a reminder that change is always possible. The dedication plaque for the artwork notes "What we do here, matters everywhere.
"In our fortunate days, we celebrate hopes fulfilled," Caudill said in the release. "In our challenging ones, hope sustains us."
The installation was the first project funded through Lexington's Percent for Art Program, officials said. The program puts aside a portion of the city's capital project budget toward the creation of public art citywide.
