LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Athletes of all varying abilities showed off their skills and learned some new ones Saturday.

It was the inaugural Adaptative Recreation Showcase at the University of Louisville. It was put on by Gathering Strength, a nonprofit that helps those with disabilities become more dependent and active in the community.

Participants took part in wheelchair basketball, rock climbing, handcycling and archery.

Many of the athletes worked with modified equipment to participate.

"I think it just shows the resilience and the power of people when they can build their self esteem and their sense of hope for the future and skills by engaging in sports," event organizer Liz Fust said.
