LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville basketball legend was celebrated in the Chickasaw neighborhood on Sunday.
An honorary street sign for Ron King was placed at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Ellerholt Court. King, who was born in 1951, won Kentucky Mr. Basketball while playing at Central High School. King led Central to the 1969 state championship.
"This is a testimony to you being a great person,"Â Metro Councilwoman Donna Purvis said to King during the ceremony.
He later played collegiately at Florida State University before joining the professional ranks for the Kentucky Colonels. He averaged 19.6 points per game during his career at Florida State, finishing with 1,252 points.Â
King was selected in the fourth round of the 1973 NBA Draft.
King has been inducted into the Black Kentucky Hall of Fame, Kentucky High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Florida State Hall of Fame.Â
The new street signs reads "Ron King Way."Â
