LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville horse trainer has high hopes to make the Kentucky Derby again soon.

Norm Casse was born and raised in Louisville, played baseball at Bellarmine and learned everything he knows about horses under his father, who is a Hall of Fame trainer.

He has 40 horses at Churchill Downs right now, but Casse's horses are running on Oaks and Derby day but not in the signature races themselves.

"It's a lot of a numbers game and a whole lot of luck," Casse said. "You have to have horses that are good enough to make the Derby and you can never have an issue with them for basically a year and a half."

Casse said he strives every day to make it back to the Derby.
