LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) ā Louisville Metro EMS just added nine new EMTs to its ranks.
Friday, family and friends were there to watch the latest class of EMT Academy graduates take their oath to serve.
The new EMTs completed more than 600 training hours in the classroom then an additional 70 hours going out on runs.
All that training is necessary as they'll be required to make split-second, life or death decisions on the job.
"This profession is not a job its a calling," Jesse Yarbrough, Louisville Metro EMS Chief, said. "It's a commitment to serving the community and responding to, I'm going to emphasize this word, anyone who needs your help."
EMT Academy recruits are paid for four months of training and make more than $18 an hour once hired as full time EMTs with the city.
