LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Residents relocating from Dosker Manor will have help furnishing their new homes.

Louisville Metro Housing Authority partnered with Happy Home Furniture Bank and Schmitt Furniture to provide furnishing for residents of the senior and disabled public housing community.

Residents of Dosker Manor began to voluntarily relocate in July 2024 due to longstanding issues. According to a news release Tuesday, more than 230 households have successfully moved out of Dosker Manor to new places.

LMHA said many residents lack adequate furniture due to past pest infestations and economic challenges.

"This collaboration is a crucial step in providing stability and dignity for former Dosker Manor residents," Elizabeth Strojan, executive director of LMHA, said in a news release.

Happy Home Furniture Bank and Schmitt Furniture will supply household items. Happy Home Furniture Bank accepts donations of new and gently used furniture and home furnishings at its warehouse located at 252C America Place Drive in Jeffersonville.

According to a news release, each household that qualifies will receive items like a sofa, end table, kitchen table, chairs, bed frame, new mattress, bed linens and other furniture. Donation pick ups can be arranged for a fee.

"We are honored and excited to be part of such a significant effort," Christy Spence, executive director of Happy Home Furniture Bank, said in a news release. "We know we’ll need to deliver a lot of furniture over the coming weeks, so we’re eager to get the community involved to make this happen – to turn empty houses into homes.”

LMHA said residents who have been relocated and need furnishings work with a case manager to receive assistance.
