LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville nonprofit is seeking local families to participate in playgroups and parent groups.
The National Center for Families Learning, Metro Louisville and other partners are leading groups offered free of charge to eligible families. The group go for nine to 10 weeks.
According to a news release, Play with Purpose is a playgroup curriculum developed by the Louisville nonprofit and Sparkler, which is a phone app that connects families with children up to five years old with developmentally appropriate content and activities. Participating families with attend nine weekly playgroup sessions and receive individualized activities and weekly books and toys.
LENA Start is an evidence-based community program designed to engage families and help them increase responsive, serve-and-return interaction with their children during the first few years of life. Its for children between two and 32 months. According to a news release, parents and caregivers work with facilitators to increase the number of words used with their children as a means of improving and maintaining language abilities.
Families can sign up for the free playgroups or parent groups. The groups start meeting the week of Jan. 27, 2025. Families receive a free book and toys, along with lessons and guidance each week.
Families must live in Jefferson County.
