LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several local organizations put an emphasis on mental health during the holidays.

The Street Widows Foundation, Norton Healthcare and other groups hosted more than 200 families for Holiday Healing with Soul Santa. The free event was held at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in the Russell neighborhood.

The event included a toy drive, photos with Soul Santa and children's activities. Adults could also take part in self-care workshops and vendors.

"You have to have a healthy mind to have a healthy home to then have healthy and happy children and so what we wanted to do today is hit people right in the middle of the holiday season when grief tends to hurt the worst and when you tend to be the busiest," said Ashlee Johnson, founder of Street Widows Foundation.

The 502 Corvette Club also presented a $1,000 check to the Street Widows Foundation, which helps women who have experienced unjust or traumatic loss. To learn more about Street Widows Foundation, click here.
