LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman is sharing her story in hopes of helping others in need.
Michelle Smith is the author of a new book "Twisted Napkin." It depicts her struggles in an abusive relationship and how she got help.
Smith held a book release party at Trinity Life Center in the Chickasaw neighborhood Saturday. Her story has helped lead changes in legislation in how cases are prosecuted.
She is now working to find peace in her life and is getting to that by telling her story. She said her faith and family helped get her through it.
"I was one of 7,317 women in Louisville in 2021 who were abused," Smith said. "My abuser got 10 days in jail and I was his number six victim. That angered me. It hurt me that I'm okay but there's a lot of women who are not."
Smith said something as easy as taking a walk or painting would help her cope during her situation.
