LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB+WAVE) — Louisville's police chief said Thursday a report that "more than one person" was detained in southern Indiana in connection to Tuesday's bus stop shooting in the Park Duvalle neighborhood was "inaccurate."
Wednesday morning, Jeffersonville Police Chief Scott McVoy said "more than one person" was detained in connection with the shooting near a Jefferson County Public Schools bus stop that left a Valley High School student critically injured.
Later that same day, Louisville Metro Police said the investigation into the shooting "remains active and ongoing" as detectives continue following leads. The department said it was not confirming any arrests in the case, clarifying that no one has been detained or arrested by LMPD.
In an interview Thursday, LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey called Jeffersonville's report "inaccurate."
"The information that came out a couple of days ago about an arrest in Jeffersonville, I think, was inaccurate," Humphrey said. "Some lines may have gotten crossed. We don't have anyone in custody in this case. But I am feeling very confident that an arrest will be pending soon and we will be able to prosecute the people responsible for this and will be able to bring justice to this young lady's family."
The shooting happened around 8 a.m. Tuesday at Beech Street and Wyandotte Avenue. That's not far from Algonquin Park. Once on scene, officers found a teenage girl who was shot. She was taken to UofL Hospital in critical condition. No updates have been given on her condition since Tuesday. LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling the investigation because of the extent of her injuries.
"We are following leads that we have on suspect information and asking the community to make sure that they call with any information they have," Humphrey said Tuesday. "Obviously, this is a frustrating situation when we're dealing with a juvenile who's been shot, and so we are asking the community for your help in this. We want to make sure that we bring justice to this family as well as make sure that we get dangerous people off the street."Â
In a statement, a spokesperson for Jefferson County Public Schools said district police were on scene with LMPD near a bus stop on Beech Street. A letter sent home to families Tuesday afternoon confirmed the victim went to Valley High School.
