LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Investigators have announced a major bust of a pill pipeline from Florida to Kentucky, involving suspects who all wore t-shirts labeled, "The Untouchables."
Police say over the past two years the suspects would travel to West Palm Beach Florida area pain clinics, get oxycodone, and bring it back to Kentucky to sell.
More than 36,000 pills and other drugs worth nearly $1 million were brought into the Commonwealth. As a result, 28 people have been indicted on charges.
"In the course of this investigation," says Franklin Co. Sheriff Pat Melton, "it has uncovered...a business, a corporation that, if you would, we had the CEO, we had the Chief Financial Officer and chief executive officers. This thing is run very much like a business."
Authorities say the fact that the suspects wore those matching t-shirts showed they had become overconfident.
21 of the 28 people indicted have been arrested. The sheriff said he could not comment whether officers had seized drugs or money as part of those arrests.
