Metro Louisville announces drop-off locations for storm debris

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville will be accepting storm debris at several drop-off locations from Nov. 19 to Dec. 1.

According to a news release, eligible debris includes tree limbs and other compostable materials, but no construction or demolition materials -- such as shingles, municipal garbage or man-made materials -- will be accepted. 

Branches should be less than four feet long and two inches wide.

Drop-off service will not be available on Thursday, Nov. 22, or Friday, Nov. 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The following drop-off locations will be accepting debris on Monday - Friday, from noon to 6 p.m.:

  • The Newburg Community Center at 4810 Exeter Avenue
  • Highview Park at 7201 Outer Loop Road
  • The Public Works yard at 10450 Lower River Road
  • Charlie Vettiner park at 5550 Charlie Vettiner Park Road
  • Shawnee Park Drive at Dirt Bowl Drive
  • The recycling center at 595 Hubbards Lane
  • The recycling center at 7219 Dixie Highway

The following drop-off locations will also be accepting debris on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • The recycling center at 595 Hubbards Lane
  • The recycling center at 7219 Dixie Highway

The free service is only available to Jefferson County residents who can show a government-issued ID verifying that they live in the county. Contractors or persons for hire are not included in the free service and will be charged according to the posted fee schedule, according to the news release.

Additionally, residents of the Urban Services District may set storm debris out with regular yard waste, as long as it is bundled with twine.
