LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Traffic on the Milton-Madison Bridge will switch next week from the old bridge to the new one, which is still in its temporary location. That's expected to happen June 3 or 4.
After that traffic switch, drivers will use the permanent approaches in both Milton, Ky. and Madison, Ind. But near the end of those approaches, they will switch over to a temporary span that will take them to the new bridge.Â
With traffic on the new bridge, the three-ton weight limit increases to 15 tons. The 36-foot length restriction remains in place.Â
Once traffic begins to run on the new bridge, workers will start demolishing the steel truss of the old bridge. The existing piers are being strengthened and reused. Later this summer, the new bridge will slide onto the existing piers. That will close the bridge for about a week.Â
