Student writing in notebook (generic)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentuckians are being invited to turn creativity into a celebration of state history through a new contest launched by Gov. Andy Beshear and first lady Britainy Beshear.

The "Home, Arts and Writing" contest is open to residents of all ages and asks participants to showcase Kentucky's history and culture through original artwork, photos, videos, poetry or short essays.

Instead of a traditional submission process, entries will be shared on social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

To join the contest:

  • Post your work (or a photo of your work)
  • Tag the Governor and First Lad in your post;
  • Include the hashtags #NewKentuckyHome and #TeamKentucky in your post
  • If you are a student, also include a hashtag with your age group: #Preschool, #ElementarySchool, #MiddleSchool, #HighSchool or #College.

Contest entries must be posted by midnight on June 18.

Winners will receive a two-night stay at a Kentucky State Park and a one-year membership to the Kentucky Historical Society.

Officials said the contest is designed to spotlight Kentucky's past while encouraging residents to tell their own stories about what the state means to them today.
