LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Some Louisvillians took advantage of Saturday afternoon's weather to welcome a new public library.

The Fairdale Library opened it's doors Saturday. The facility more than doubles the size of the previous branch.

A large crowd of all ages gathered to celebrate its opening.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer spoke at the ceremony, saying libraries are still a very large part of the community.

"Libraries in today's world are not just going and getting a book right? It's a community center, it's a place for job seekers. It's a place where the entire community comes together and defines itself."

The over $2-million project is designed to save energy and operating costs as well.
