LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- This Pride month many in Louisville are celebrating a historic fight for equality for those in the LGBTQ+ community.

Fifty-four years ago, two landmark events took place in Louisville which helped forge the path towards equality.

A new marker now honors the founding of the Louisville Gay Liberation Front in 1970 and commemorates the first lesbian marriage court case.

"We want to mark LGBTQ history," Chris Hartman, executive director of the Fairness Campaign, said. "We want future generations to be able to look to sites within the city of Louisville and the commonwealth of Kentucky to find their history and to be able to move forward"

That new marker is now up at 420 Belgravia Court.
