LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville doctors are seeing more flu cases in children.
Norton Children's pediatrician Dr. Amael Shalash said there have been more than a thousand flu cases system-wide this month. Shalash said most cases have been in school-aged children.
Symptoms include fever, cough, congestion and body aches. Shalash said home remedies are often the best way to manage those kinds of symptoms.
"Oftentimes Tylenol or Ibuprofen is needed for the headaches or fever, honey for cough," Shalash said. "Honey is a great home remedy, it's much better than a lot of the over the counter medication, there's no side effects. It's a very good cough suppressant. Lots and lots of fluids."
Doctors said parents should seek immediate care if their child has a persistent fever, a fever over 102 degrees or if the child is having trouble breathing.
