LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say they have a suspect in custody after a teen was stabbed early Wednesday.

Damien McLean, 21, is charged with assault. Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, LMPD officers responded to a trouble call on Lewis Way near Dixie Highway just south of the Snyder Freeway.

He pleaded not guilty to assault in court Thursday morning.

Officers found McLean on Dutschke Road, near the intersection of Dixie Highway and Greenbelt Highway. That's where detectives believe the victim was stabbed. Police believe McLean argued with the victim before the stabbing.

Investigators say the victim walked away from the scene, but collapsed on the sidewalk.

The victim is in critical condition at University Hospital.

McLean's bond was set at $25,000.
