LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville mother confronted the teen convicted in her son’s killing in court Tuesday, pleading for him to stay in prison as a judge denied his request for early release.
Daniel Wallace, 18, appeared in court seeking shock probation in connection with the 2024 killing of 13-year-old DaViawn Blackmon.
Wallace previously accepted a plea deal that reduced a murder charge to a lesser offense, resulting in a five-year prison sentence.
Blackmon was shot in the head and left in an alley near Broadway and 38th Street in June 2024, according to court records.
During Tuesday's hearing, Blackmon’s mother pleaded with the court not to grant Wallace any leniency.
"He needs to serve his time five years was a lenient sentence as it is," she said. "This is not fair, this is not just, this is not right."
The judge denied Wallace’s request and ordered him to remain in prison.
Wallace’s co-defendant, Brad Watkins, previously accepted a plea deal in the case and is serving a 23-year sentence.
