LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man says an acquaintance years stole his flatbed trailer and sold it without his permission.
According to the arrest report, Robert Hayes told police the trailer was taken while Hayes was incarcerated. Hayes says he was in jail for only a short time, and the trailer was missing from his property when he returned.
Hayes says he later spotted the trailer at a gas station and followed the person towing it, then called police. When officers arrived, Hayes showed them his title to the trailer.
Police spoke to the person who was towing the trailer and were told the transaction occurred at the Hayes residence.
The man who bought the trailer showed police a canceled check for $1,500 made out to Billy Wray.
Hayes told police he and William R. Ron have known each other for about 12 years. Wray was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking.
Hayes says he's out $4,000.
