LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In the last two elections former President Donald Trump overwhelmingly won Kentucky.
On Thursday, Trump became the first former American president to be convicted of felony crimes after a New York jury found him guilty of all 34 charges.
The trial involved charges that Trump falsified business records to cover up hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, the porn actor who said she had sex with the married Trump in 2006.
The verdict created a few strong opinions for some in Louisville on Thursday. The fighting words in the Pavelko household is politics.
"I believe in the rule of law, and I believe if the jury believed he was guilty on all counts then he is guilty on all counts," Jane Pavelko said.
But Bob Pavelko voted for Trump in the last two elections and Jane canceled his vote.
"Well, I'm troubled about the direction our nation is taking," Bob Pavelko said. "I think this never should have been brought up, the laws were extended or bent to bring him to trial."
Down the street in NuLu, WDRB's Richard Essex spoke to Katrina Coury.
"About damn time," Coury said. "He has been breaking the law for how many years, and he finally got caught."
Her husband chose to stand off to the side and kept his opinion to himself but that wasn't the case for Dan Dowl.
"I don't like it," Dowl said. "I think there was no way Trump could get a fair trial in New York. I think the case is weak against him, and I think this sets a really bad precedent going forward for other presidents."
From what WDRB gathered in the streets of Louisville, the verdict is very divisive but the real opinion is the one in November on Election Day.
Trump's sentencing was set for July 11, which is days before the Republican National Convention.
