LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Registration is now open for Louisville's SummerWorks program.
SummerWorks helps Louisville's youth by connecting them with supportive networks and career opportunities. As part of the program, companies like UPS, GE, and Humana hire people between the ages of 16 and 21 as summer employees.
All of the jobs in the SummerWorks program are paid positions. Applicants from low-income homes or those who face other barriers to success are prioritized for job matches.
"What I've come to find out over the years the employers who take a chance on young people are really proud that they did," said Lynn Rippy, YouthBuild president and CEO.Â
Last year, 50 nonprofit and public sector work sites hired youth. There were more than 237 youth in sponsored jobs.
The program has helped place around 8,000 people in jobs.Â
