LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — People were kicking up their heels to the beat of drums Sunday afternoon for a good cause.
The River City Drum Corps hosted the fundraiser "And the Beat Goes On: Line Dance-a-thon" at the Baxter Community Center.
Dancers, families, local organizations and music lovers raised funds to support youth music education, leadership development and performance opportunities.
It was six hours of continuous dancing as viewers could watch online and donate in real time.
There were also team challenges and audience participation.
"Leveraging our community, leveraging our love and our energy and our power and our influence to create better rather than destruction," said Dr. Brandy Shumake with the River City Drum Corps. "We are builders not destroyers and anytime we gather together and cogenerate is a win."
The fundraiser was an official kickoff event for "Bourbon, Blues & Boots: The Mid-Southern Hoedown."
