LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A popular soul food restaurant in Louisville's Smoketown neighborhood is mourning the loss of its founder.
Shirley Mae Beard was the owner and face of Shirley Mae's Café on South Clay Street. She died at the age of 84 on Saturday morning, according to her family.
She was a staple for Louisville's soul food for decades. She met politicians and celebrities, including Bruno Mars. She also held an annual community Thanksgiving for years.
