LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Human remains were found in Scott County, Indiana. Authorities believe it could belong to a Scottsburg mother who went missing in September.
Amanda Martin has been missing since September, and police originally said her disappearance was a "baffling case" because there were no leads.
Martin was last seen Sept. 13, 2024. She was staying in an RV with a friend on Frog Pond Road just a few miles outside of Scottsburg. Her family said that friend ran to the store. When he returned, Martin was nowhere to be found.
In an update on social media Wednesday, the Scott county Sheriff's Office said deputies along with Indiana State Police found "skeletal remains" on a wooded property near where Martin was last seen.
A forensic examination has been scheduled to identify the remains and determine a cause of death. According to officials, the results of the examination won't be known for six to eight weeks.Â
"We are saddened by the discovery of the remains discovered yesterday, but we also realize a family can now possibly begin to heal," Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin said. "This is an active investigation, and I personally appreciate the help from our law enforcement partners. Together, we continue to seek a factual conclusion about what happened here. I want to ask if you have any information that would help us with this investigation, please give us a call."
Sheriff Goodin said the investigation is ongoing. He asks anyone with information to reach out to the Scott County Sheriff's Office at 812-752-8400. You can remain anonymous.
