LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A long-running Sunday tradition at the Speed Art Museum is coming to an end.
After more than a decade of free Sunday admission, the Speed Art Museum said the program is no longer sustainable. Museum leaders said shrinking funding and rising costs are the reason, according to a news release.
Beginning Jan. 18, the museum will move to a monthly Pay-What-You-Can Sunday, held on the third Sunday of each month.
All other Sundays will require regular admission, though museum members will continue to get in free.
Free Sundays have been a staple since 2011, made possible through donor support. The new monthly Pay-What-You-Can Sundays aim to keep the museum accessible for everyone.
