LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) --Â Shepherdsville, Kentucky's St. Aloysius Elementary will close at the end of the current school year.
The Archdiocese of Louisville cites declining enrollment and rising costs in closing the school. It said the facility's physical plant is also aging, and has depleted the parish budget.
The school's current enrollment is for grades K-8 is 97 students, with 92 expected next school year. Fr. Brian Kenney, pastor of St. Aloysius Parish, says in a news release, "While I am very proud of the wonderful learning environment and school spirit at St. Aloysius, I know that we cannot continue to provide a quality education under these circumstances. St. Aloysius School has proudly served many generations of families, and I know this is a painful situation for our parish community. Please pray and support one another as we make this transition."
School and parish staff will work with families from St. Aloysius as their students prepare to attend other schools next year. Counselors were made available Monday to meet with teachers, students, and families.Â
