LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An election audit found Jefferson County's voter registration database was more than 99% accurate.
Jefferson County Clerk David Yates gave an update Thursday morning on the audit of voter registration records and precinct assignments that looked into whether registered voters were assigned to the correct precincts based on their address.
Earlier this month, Yates reported some voters in Jefferson County were given the wrong ballots in the primary election. About 30 voters living on Red Dawn Drive were assigned to the wrong precinct due to a clerical error.Â
After the clerical error was found, Yates ordered an internal audit.Â
The State Board of Elections conducted its own audit and found the county's voter registration database was more than 99% accurate.
"Our shared goal is very simple: It's ensuring that every voter is assigned to the correct precinct, and maintaining public confidence in the integrity of our elections," Yates said.
The state also found about 2,200 voter records — which is less than 1% of voters — that will require additional examination. Yates said those records "primarily involve address-specific circumstances."Â
Yates' office also plans to hire an independent third party to complete a third audit.
