LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Biking, running and swimming for several hours is tough enough but doing it in the August Kentucky heat doesn't make it any easier.

The 70.3-mile IRONMAN race kicked off at 5 a.m. Sunday. Participants swam, biked and ran across Louisville and out to Oldham County until 5 p.m.

The race started at Waterfront Park and ended at 4th Street Live! in downtown.

Athletes said the heat was a challenge, even the water in the river was a little too warm.

Jason West from Longmont, Colorado, was the winner.

"When it all comes together you think about all the people that are supporting you, all the people that are believing in you," West said. "It takes so much hard work from so many people so it's just really, really special."
