During a jailhouse interview, convicted killer Cecil New gave details to detectives from the Louisville Metro Police department.

Retired Major Troy Pitcock and a homicide detective interviewed New at the Kentucky State Reformatory in Eddyville last May.  "He basically says that he came into his apartment, Ivan was in the apartment in the refrigerator area," says Major Troy Pitcock, LMPD (Ret.)

This is the first time New has told police what happened to Cano. Police believe the boy walked into New's home on his own.  "Which those of you who have reviewed the evidence will notice that matches the evidence because there's physical evidence, DNA from Ivan in that area."

During the interview New even admits to seeing and watching Ivan from the back window of his home--long before the abduction and murder, according to police.  "He admits to seeing him in the alleyway and watching him for months."

But after months of watching, New told detectives that's when he found the boy in his home and snapped.  "He describes that he is in a fit of rage basically. He picks up the child takes him to the bathroom, kills the child and then puts the body in the garbage can immediately thereafter."

Police recently shared some of those details with Ivan's mother, but not everything.  "As a homicide investigator you always made a determination of what facts to share with the family. There are certain things here that very honestly I would prefer that she never--never know."

"It was heartbreaking for her," says Christopher 2X, with Fight Crimes Against Children.

2X was with Roselina Cano when she met with police.  2X says what little she did hear was pretty rough.  "One of the most touching things that she shared with us, not only knowing that her child got drowned by Cecil New's accounts, but the fact that Cecil New said that he was hollering for his mother."

And there's more, New even made a disturbing admission to police during the interview.

"He makes a statement at one point if he were free he could not say he wouldn't do that again," says Pitcock.
