LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's not often that teachers want their students full of sugar, but that was the assignment Wednesday night at Stuart Academy.

The south Louisville middle school hosted a trunk-or-treat event, complete with superheroes and ghosts on hand.

It's part of an effort to boost community within the school, and better engage with students' families.

"We're trying to bring back Stuart. The old Stuart is gone, the new Stuart is a new day and age here and we're excited about the things going on and the parents are too," Principal Darren Dawson said. "And so this school has a totally new vibe around it so we're excited about our future."

In addition to candy, there were games, the band played, and students read scary stories for literacy night.
