LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- With no one in custody one year after his murder, the family and friends of a South Louisville man passed out flyers and put up fresh posters in the neighborhood where he was killed, hoping for new tips.
21-year-old Bryan Lewis was killed in his mother's home near Taylor Boulevard and Bicknell Avenue October 20, 2012.
His family said someone knocked on the door of the house, and when Lewis opened it, he was shot four times in the face. His dog "Champ" was also killed.
"He thought he was safe in his home that night, when somebody broke in and killed him," said the victim's father Steve Lewis. Lewis still struggles with the loss of his child, but said an arrest would bring some solace.
Around two dozen people gathered to pass out 1,000 flyers and hang up posters across eight different streets.
The flyers advertise a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those involved. The family has raised the money over the last year, hoping it will encourage someone to come forward.
Steve Lewis said that at this point, he won't find closure, but if they can lock someone up and prevent another murder from happening he'll be pleased. "It's tragic enough that this has happened to us, so if it can be prevented from happening to somebody else by the same people, I'd like to see justice," he said.
This from his father, as his aunt promises an ongoing fight. "We are a family that is not going to forget, and we're not going away, and we are not going to rest until we get justice for him," said Pam Lewis.
