LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a double shooting that happened Monday morning.
The victim was identified Monday afternoon as 22-year-old Monquel Ligon, according to Deputy Coroner Jim Wesley. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest.
The shooting happened inside a lounge on West Broadway, near South 24th Street.
The shooting happened just after 5 a.m. Monday. When police arrived, they found Ligon and another man shot, LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell said.
Both men were taken to University Hospital. Police originally said both men suffered non-life threatening injuries, but later announced that Ligon had died.
According to the coroner, Ligon died shortly after 6 a.m. during surgery at U of L Hospital.
The men were shot in an altercation during an after hours party inside the lounge, Mitchell said.
Police have not identified any suspects and are asking for tips at 574-LMPD.
The LMPD Homicide Unit is investigating.
