LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Yellow lines were drawn on Muhammad Ali Boulevard this week as Louisville prepares to open parts of the street to two-way traffic.
It has long been a one-way street. City officials said they are making these changes to make areas safer, create more direct travel routes through the city and give drivers easier access to their destinations.
Soon, there will be two-way traffic on West Muhammad Ali Boulevard between 9th Street and Southwestern Parkway.
The city recently removed the traffic lights in the area and replaced them with stop signs.
People who live in the area think the city should add flashing lights to the stop signs.
"I just think the flashing red light will be more noticeable than the stop signs," Earlene Lax said.
A study showed several streets in downtown and NuLu would benefit from becoming two-way streets. With the help of that study and federal funding, city officials hope this is just the beginning of several conversions.
