Many people are scratching their heads and wondering why we're having so much road construction all at once.
To refresh your memory, the Kennedy Bridge is under repair to replace expansion joints. There's the I-65 Central Corridor project that could be completed by summer of 2027, but it will require a full closure of I-65 between downtown and the Watterson Expressway next June and July. The 264 interchanges at Brownsboro Road will be torn up for two more years to accommodate the VA hospital. I-71 between downtown and Zorn Avenue will be under construction for the next two years. And River Road has been mostly closed to thru traffic all year.
I get why people are frustrated, but maybe we look at it a little differently. Our construction czars are giving us pain right now so we can be ready for the future. This is a responsible way to improve our infrastructure as the city continues to grow so we don't experience the worst parts of Nashville. Nashville has a lot to offer but they completely outgrew their infrastructure to the point where traffic is perpetually snarled every minute of every day, sewage lines are overwhelmed, and the quality of life is far less than we have right here.
Can you put up with construction or are you fed up with it? Share your thoughts.
