LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — More than 100 apartments could be going in right next to a residential neighborhood on Breckenridge Lane.

In December, Creekside Manor Apartments purchased the land near Breckenridge Lane and Pecunnie Way. In February, the company requested to get the zoning changed from single-family residential to multi-family residential.

Julie Johnson grew up in the area. She said she and other neighbors want the zoning to stay single-family.

"It's just a shame that somebody has to put up more apartments," Johnson said. "We're worried about drainage, we're worried about garbage, we're worried about light pollution."

The plan is to put up five buildings, a walking path, and open space. This will include 104 apartments. Three of the buildings will be three-story and the other two will be two-story.

While Johnson doesn't think they can stop the development, they still want their voices to be heard.

"If this is all going to go up, we need some space right here, we need an easement, we need a privacy fence," Johnson said.

Neighbors said they wish they would've known about the zoning before now.

"If we had gotten some kind of information beforehand, we could’ve discussed our concerns with them about changing the zoning," Johnson said. "This has been our woods for 64 years; it's hard to give it up."

Neighbors can provide input at 6 p.m. on March 18 during a meeting at the Wildwood Country Club where developers will present the full proposal.

Creekside Manor Apartments LLC's attorney Cliff Ashburner provided a statement about the project:

"Our client, Creekside Manor Apartments, LLC, purchased the land in December from a long-time owner and is unaware of any previous plan to develop the land with single-family homes. The proposed development has been designed to be compatible with surrounding properties and to add market-rate housing options to the busy Breckinridge Lane corridor, all in keeping with the guidelines of Plan 2040 for the development of new housing. We look forward to presenting the plan to the community and working with area stakeholders and Louisville Metro Planning staff in the months ahead."
