There were some terrific stories that came out of the big snowstorm. I was told of a guy who was out shoveling his driveway and another guy in a pickup with a blade on the front came along and said "Hey! Let me get that for you." And in a swipe or two, he cleared the guy's driveway for him. The first guy said, "Thanks! Let me give you something for this." And the second guy said, "Nope. I'm just out here trying to help people." Off he went.

WDRB had a story about four guys, probably in their 20s, who were shoveling the sidewalk in front of neighbors' houses. I think they may have done the whole block. They didn't ask for anything. They just wanted to help.

There must be countless stories like this in Kentuckiana alone.

It's funny. We're so divided over politics — we can't agree if it's day or night — and then along comes a snowstorm to give us a common obstacle and we come together. Nobody said "Hey! I'd like to shovel you out but are you a Republican or a Democrat?" A shared experience allows us to put our differences aside for a while and help each other. Being an American used to be our shared experience, but today, it's a snowstorm. Whatever brings us together, I'll take it.

If you have any stories of help or kindness, let us hear them.
