Christopher Thompson was convicted of sodomy, robbery and kidnapping. There's no doubt he did all that and much more. During sentencing last week, he even said he had no compassion for his victims and no remorse for his actions. He said vile things to Jefferson Circuit Judge Tracy Davis while she was sentencing him. I give her credit for not letting her emotions get the best of her.
In fact, even though the jury recommended 65 years in prison for this unrepentant and violent criminal, Judge Davis decided that his sentence should be reduced by 35 years. Her reasoning was "Mr. Thompson never actually got any mental health and anger management treatments."
To that I say, so what? Why should he be shown compassion when he has no remorse for his crimes? This is an evil person who will never be rehabilitated, civilized or redeemable. He is broken beyond repair. He made that perfectly clear.
Mercy is a gift for those who seek redemption. For an unrepentant predator who mocks the court and his victims alike, it is an insult to justice. In choosing to prioritize Thompson's lack of treatment over his victims' lack of safety, Judge Davis didn't just reduce a sentence — she reduced the value of justice itself.
I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
