Everyone can agree that we all want to reduce violent crime and gun violence. But that common agreement immediately dissolves if the solution doesn't come from our particular political party.

It's such a shame when cracking down on violent crime to save lives becomes so political that ideology overrides pragmatic solutions.

This will rile some people but it's a fact that our worst crime-ridden, violent cities are under Democrat control.

President Trump would sincerely like to reduce violent crime in those cities, but, being who he is, he'd also like to embarrass Democrats in the process. The Democrats, who don't want to be embarrassed, are doubling down on their crime record and trying to keep Trump and the national guard out of their cities, saying they don't need help and their crime stats are down.

By the way, at least 58 people were shot and eight killed in Chicago just over the Labor Day weekend, compared to last year's Labor Day, when 35 people were shot and five killed. That's up significantly, but Democrats are willing to stay the course.

None of this is surprising if you remember that politics is politics, and all ideas from the other party are bad. And while both parties posture, people continue to be mowed down in Chicago.
