As we approach the beginning of another new year, we make resolutions. Once you get past resolving to lose weight or exercise more, the resolutions get harder. In that spirit, I have a few resolutions you can look at and pick the ones that might apply to you.

Banish from your vocabulary the phrase "No problem" and replace it with "It's my pleasure."

Be a more courteous driver. Be aware if your headlights are on bright or if they're not on at all at dusk or dawn.

Put your phone away and commit to being fully present during meals.

Stand up for introductions. When meeting someone new or greeting someone who enters a room, standing up shows respect and engagement.

Resolve to always be on time. It shows others that you respect their time.

Send handwritten thank-you notes. It's one of those good, old-fashioned things to do. A physical card is a meaningful way to show genuine appreciation for gifts, hospitality or professional help.

Listen instead of arguing with someone who has a different viewpoint than you do. You might just learn something.

Call us with other New Year's resolutions that would be worth sharing.

I'm Bill Lamb, and Happy New Year!
