One of the best investments the federal government has ever made was the interstate system. When we needed new bridges here in Louisville, the federal government didn't have the money. So we built them with the idea of tolls, a new tax, that we are scheduled to keep paying until at least 2053.

Fast forward just a few years when the Biden administration was printing money, Cincinnati was awarded a new one, free of tolls, courtesy of the government.

Our elected officials, both state and federal, should stop patting themselves on the back for the Brent Spence Bridge and get some federal relief for our toll bridges.

Here's what our viewers had to say:

"Why can't we — on both sides, New Albany and Louisville — give people that are locals a nice big discount of maybe $1 a pass and senior citizens on both sides. Why don't we encourage supporting the businesses on both sides?"

"Kentucky has tried more than once to reduce or eliminate the tolls. Every time has met with resistance from Indiana. Both states have to agree to reduce or eliminate the tolls."

"It's like he says, that is what the federal money was for, to build bridges and infrastructure. We should not have to pay for that. Stop paying, people. That means everyone."
